West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
Silly season starting soon and this may have been done before as it is 2 days old.

I thought we paid more for him??

West Ham United winger Matt Jarvis is once again being targeted by West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham United splashed the cash this summer, bringing in the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Alex Song, Cheikhou Kouyate, Mauro Zarate, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia - and so far, results have been impressive.

Yet one of the biggest changes for the Hammers was manager Sam Allardyce switching from the 4-4-1-1 system of last season to a new, vibrant 4-1-2-1-2 diamond, which has featured far more flair and pace.

As West Ham's base formation, the use of wingers is becoming less important. Stewart Downing has reinvented himself as an attacking midfielder, but the same can't really be said of Matt Jarvis.

A £7m signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2012, Jarvis was previously important for Allardyce, but has started just one Premier League game this season.

During the summer, West Brom were linked with a move to sign Jarvis, and with the Baggies struggling and Jarvis out of the picture at Upton Park, reports now suggest that another move could be on the cards.

The Daily Mail report that West Brom are willing to pay £5m to bring Jarvis to The Hawthorns in January, but should West Ham take a £2m loss on the former England international?

At 28, Jarvis isn't going to realistically get better, and with central midfielders now more important in Allardyce's new system, Jarvis just isn't as vital to the plans anymore.

In fact, £5m may actually be a great fee for West Ham, and that money could help keep Winston Reid at the club, or bring in a new central midfielder or striker.

Taking a loss on a player after just two and a half years would be frustrating, but Jarvis is arguably worth even less than £5m at this stage in his career - and the Hammers should snap West Brom's hand off if they offer such a fee.

Thought it was over 10mil we paid

Still think its best all round if it happens for himself and the club

I would bite their hands off.

I'm sure if a deal is to be done then Mark Curtis will want it done especially as now his influence over the transfer policy has been diminished.

Don't West Brom have enough lighweight pseudo wingers already (Brunt/Morrison/Dorrans)?

Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
He's been a big disappointment. I honestly thought we'd bought a decent player at the time but he just hasn't done it.

5 million would be outrageous. Bite their hands off.

Take it, unload Vaz Te and Carthorse and get a decent centre half in to replace Reid.

I'd also get rid and make Morgan more permanent.

What if someone from West Brom reads this?

He is a fantastic player who simply cannot be replaced. An England international too. He must be worth at least £12m in the current market.

It just hasn't worked for him

Would be a good move for both

Mr Kenzo 10:21 Tue Dec 9
Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
Would rather keep hold of him, we will need a big pool of players throughout the season. We are going to lose 3 players for the whole January and possibly a couple of fringe players.

Good move for all. Decent enough money for a player who's fallen down the pecking order.

Whether it was £7m or £10m, Wolves really saw us coming on that deal.

Great news. We can reinvest the money in someone who can play football.

Konoplyanka Griff0?

Wages Griff0... equates to AC's wages for a year

Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
Depends who else we can offload, Burns0.

As far as I know, we're pretty much maxed out on wages, and whilst we have money to spend any signings will be based on what salary we have spare. Jarv0 is on £40-£45k a week, and I'm not sure that will be enough for Konoplyanka.

Mr. Burns 10:37 Tue Dec 9
Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
hmmm we will have to shift Vaz Te as well then.

stewie griffin 10:38 Tue Dec 9
Re: West Brom to bid 5m for Jarvis
That's teh trouble, as Kenzo says, we lose a few to that poxy African thing, so shifting two or three to bring one in will leave us light on numbers. Tricky balancing ACT.

Id pull their arm off for that.
